What should I know before replacing my furnace?

Before you swap the equipment, make sure you understand the system it's part of.

Replacing a furnace is a real investment, so it's worth getting the diagnosis right first. A new furnace installed into a duct system with airflow problems will inherit those problems.

Before replacing, it's worth understanding the condition of the heat exchanger, the static pressure and airflow of the ductwork, the size of the equipment relative to the home, and whether the issues you're feeling are actually equipment problems or distribution problems.

The goal isn't to talk you out of a replacement when one is genuinely needed. It's to make sure a replacement actually solves the problem you're trying to fix.
